حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الرَّقِّيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْبَرَاءِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: لَقِيتُ عَمِّي وَمَعَهُ رَايَةٌ، فَقُلْتُ: أَيْنَ تُرِيدُ ؟ قَالَ: "بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى رَجُلٍ نَكَحَ امْرَأَةَ أَبِيهِ، فَأَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَضْرِبَ عُنُقَهُ وَآخُذَ مَالَهُ".
Yazid bin Bara’ narrated from his father, who said: I met my uncle who had a banner with him. I asked: Where are you going? He replied: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) has sent me to a man who has married his father’s wife, and he (peace be upon him) has commanded me to behead him and seize his wealth.
Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2275)
A person who marries his stepmother is a great criminal; his punishment is that all his wealth and property should be confiscated and his head should be severed, so that no one in the future dares to commit such a heinous act. And to marry one's real mother is an even more abominable and dreadful act.
