Hadith 2262

حَدَّثَنَا يَعْلَى، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ أَغْيَرَ مِنَ اللَّهِ، لِذَلِكَ حَرَّمَ الْفَوَاحِشَ وَلَيْسَ أَحَدٌ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ الْمَدْحُ مِنَ اللَّهِ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There is no one more possessive than Allah, and that is why He has forbidden indecency and immoral deeds. And there is no one who likes to be praised more than Allah."

Ghayrah (protective jealousy) is such a quality that a person’s soul is stirred and inflamed regarding his wife, or a wife regarding her husband, when either of them displays their beauty and adornment to someone other than their spouse.
This attribute exists in Allah Ta’ala to the highest degree: when a servant leaves his Creator and associates someone else with Him, or venerates another, or takes someone besides Allah as a deity. According to the Ahl al-Hadith, ghayrah is one of Allah’s attributes, which is to be understood according to its apparent meaning; it cannot be subject to interpretation. Allah alone knows its true reality.
