Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2244) The woman whose name was drawn by lot, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would take only her along with him on a journey, and would leave the rest of the women in Madinah. This was the perfection of your sallallahu alayhi wa sallam’s justice; otherwise, the scholars have said that division was not obligatory upon you sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and Allah Ta’ala had given you sallallahu alayhi wa sallam the choice to stay with whichever woman you wished. He said: «﴿تُرْجِيمَنْتَشَاءُمِنْهُنَّوَتُؤْوِيإِلَيْكَمَنْتَشَاءُ .....﴾ [الأحزاب : 51]» Translation: “You may put aside whichever of them you wish, and take to yourself whichever you wish.”
