Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 2206 to 2208)
The meaning of this hadith is that generally, people have the habit of seeking wealth, beauty, and lineage. Therefore, it is necessary for a religious person to give precedence to religion over all these qualities so that he may attain good companionship, and by the blessing of righteousness, Allah Ta’ala will also grant him good character and harmonious living. And due to righteousness, he will remain protected from religious and worldly tribulations.
«تَرِبَتْيَدَاكَ» “May your hands be dust-covered”—this is not a curse, but rather a phrase that is commonly used in everyday speech, and its purpose is to incite or encourage towards something. Similarly, «لَاأُمَّلَهُ ، لَاأَبَالَكْ ، وَيْلٌلِأُمِّهِ» and other such expressions are used idiomatically, and their literal meaning is not intended.
