Hadith 2197

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: "I consider it bad to see a chain or collar around the neck (in a dream), and I like to see a shackle (chain) on the feet, because it means that a person remains firm and steadfast on his religion."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2196)

The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam disliked seeing chains and collars around the neck because this is a sign of the people of Hell, as in the noble verse: «﴿إِذِ الْأَغْلَالُ فِي أَعْنَاقِهِمْ وَالسَّلَاسِلُ يُسْحَبُونَ﴾ [المؤمن : 71]» “When the collars will be around their necks and the chains, they will be dragged...” Therefore, if someone sees chains or collars around the neck, it is not a good sign. However, if someone sees shackles on the feet, then this is a sign of steadfastness in his religion.
