Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 2175 to 2177)
To see the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in a dream is a great fortune, and this blessing is granted only to good, pious, and God-fearing people. And whoever saw the Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in his actual appearance and form as described in the books, then his dream is true, and indeed he has seen him sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, because Satan does not have the power to assume the form of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Furthermore, seeing the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in a dream does not make a person a Companion (Sahabi).
The scholars have said: And if, in a dream, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gives a command that is contrary to the Shari‘ah, that too will not be considered proof nor acceptable, and it will undoubtedly be regarded and understood as the illusion and deception of the dreamer.
