Hadith 2172

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، وَسُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "سَاقِي الْقَوْمِ آخِرُهُمْ شُرْبًا".
Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who serves the people drinks last of all."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2171)

It is among the Islamic etiquettes that whoever serves milk, tea, sherbet, or water—whatever the drink may be—the requirement of etiquette is that if there is a need to drink, he himself should drink last of all. This ruling is not obligatory; it is a directive given out of etiquette.
