Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila said: We set out with Sayyiduna Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) towards Mada’in Salih. On the way, he asked for water. A villager brought water in a silver vessel. Sayyiduna Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) threw it away. We said among ourselves: Remain silent, if we ask him the reason, he will not tell us. After a while, he himself said: Do you know why I threw away that water? We replied: No, we do not know. He said: I had forbidden that person and informed him that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade drinking from gold and silver vessels and wearing silk and brocade, and said that these things are for them (the disbelievers) in this world and for us in the Hereafter.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2166)
Imam Nawawi rahimahullah said: There is consensus among the scholars that eating and drinking from vessels of gold and silver is forbidden (haram).
In the aforementioned hadith, only drinking is mentioned, but it is narrated in the Sahihayn from Sayyiduna Hudhayfah radi Allahu anhu himself that: “Do not eat from plates of gold and silver,” and in Sahih Muslim it is stated: “Whoever eats or drinks from a vessel of gold or silver is kindling the fire of Hell in his belly (may Allah protect us from it).”
From this very hadith, we learn of the honor and zeal of Sayyiduna Hudhayfah radi Allahu anhu, and from his extremely severe reaction to opposition to the Sunnah, it is understood that if there is any opposition to the Sunnah of the Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, then it is permissible to become angry.
From this hadith, the prohibition for men to wear silk (harir) and brocade (dibaj) is also understood, and also that such soft and delicate clothing is reserved especially for the people of Paradise in Paradise.
