The following rulings are derived from these hadiths: drinking water while standing, eating while walking, and drinking water directly from a waterskin (mashk) by putting the mouth to it are permissible.
The prohibition of drinking water directly from a waterskin by putting the mouth to it has already been mentioned in previous pages.
From the action of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), permissibility is established, but the statement (qawl) takes precedence over action (fi‘l). Therefore, drinking water directly from a waterskin by putting the mouth to it is not correct. Similarly, drinking water while standing or eating while walking are not among the etiquettes of eating and drinking; rather, sitting and then eating or drinking is from the etiquettes of eating and drinking, as will be mentioned in the coming hadith.
