It is narrated from Wa'il that Sayyiduna Suwaid bin Tariq (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about making wine. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade him from making wine. Sayyiduna Suwaid (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "It is a medicine." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "It is not a medicine, rather it is a disease."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2131)
The consumption, production, and sale of wine and every intoxicating substance is haram (forbidden), because it is the mother of all evils and the root of many diseases and ailments, and the statement of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is true, correct, and authentic.
This is not a medicine but rather a disease and an illness, because Allah Ta’ala has not placed any cure in anything that is haram.
Allah Ta’ala has deposited medicine, treatment, and cure in many other things.
May Allah Ta’ala protect everyone from the addiction to wine.
Ameen.
In the present era, alcohol is present in most medicines as a preservative; it is better to avoid this as well, but in a case of necessity, its use is possible.
The noble scholars have said: because the nature (mahiya) of alcohol changes in medicine, therefore, any medicine from which intoxication does not result may be used.
