Hadith 2110

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the servant of any one of you brings food, let him make him sit with him (to eat together); if he refuses, then let him give him some of that food."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2109)

The word "khaadim" (servant) includes slaves, servants, attendants, and students—all are encompassed within it.

In the narration of Sahih Bukhari, it is stated: If you cannot seat your servant to eat with you, then at least give him one or two morsels, because he has borne the hardship of preparing the food and endured the heat, as is mentioned in another narration that follows.

This hadith teaches kindness and good conduct towards slaves and servants.

In Islam, all are equal by virtue of being human; neither is anyone a master nor a possessed one. The true Owner and Master of all is only Allah, the Blessed and Exalted. Worldly masters and owners are all metaphorical—today they exist, tomorrow they do not.
