باب في الْوَلِيمَةِ:Chapter: The Wedding Feast (Walima)

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: "شَرُّ الطَّعَامِ طَعَامُ الْوَلِيمَةِ، يُدْعَى إِلَيْهِ الْأَغْنِيَاءُ، وَيُتْرَكُ الْمَسَاكِينُ، وَمَنْ تَرَكَ الدَّعْوَةَ، فَقَدْ عَصَى اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ".
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The worst food is the food of the wedding feast (walimah) to which the rich are invited and the poor are left out, and whoever does not accept the invitation has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger.
Brief Explanation

In the case of the wedding feast (walimah), it often happens that only wealthy and affluent people are invited, and this Sunnah is performed with great pomp and show, due to which this Sunnah turns into ostentation and display.
One should not forget one’s poor and needy Muslim brothers, whether in the wedding feast (walimah) or on any other occasion.
In today’s era, not only Muslims but even non-Muslims are invited to such gatherings, while poor relatives and Muslim brothers are neglected. Such a walimah and such an invitation will certainly be devoid of blessings.
