Hadith 2101

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a trace of yellow color on Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), so he said: "What is this yellow color?" He replied: "I have gotten married." The Prophet said: "(Then) give a wedding feast, even if it is with only one goat."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2100)

Walima refers to the meal that is offered by the husband after the wedding night (shab-e-zafaf).
Some scholars have declared it obligatory (wajib) because in the aforementioned hadith, the command is given in the imperative form, and an imperative indicates obligation.
From this hadith, it is also understood that in a walima, at least one goat or sheep should be slaughtered; if even this is not possible, then a walima can be held with sattu (roasted barley flour) and sweets, etc.
In this same hadith, saffron color is mentioned, but it is prohibited for men to apply saffron. The explanation for this could be that, due to staying with the bride, the yellow color of the woman or the yellowish hue of a mixed fragrance may have transferred onto the body or clothes of Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf radi Allahu anhu.
