Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him), narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "O Aisha! The people of a house in which there are no dates are hungry." He (peace be upon him) said this two or three times.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2096)

A house that is devoid of dates will not have prosperity; this was said by the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam regarding the people of Madinah, whose staple food was dates. Today, modern science and medicine have proven that dates contain abundant nutrition and a chemical substance that is even an antidote to poison. Dates fill the human body with vitamins and make the body robust, and they increase sexual strength. In Unani medicine, the date paste (ma‘jun khurma) is very famous.
