It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The food of one person is sufficient for two people, and the food of two people is sufficient for four, and the food of four is sufficient for eight people."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2080)
When a believer's faith is complete, its blessing is such that greed and covetousness are entirely removed from him, and his heart remains directed towards Allah. He inevitably eats food, but considers eating less to be excellent. As for the disbeliever, the transgressor, and some among the common believers whose light of faith is not complete, their condition is that they consider it necessary at all times to eat to their fill; rather, they eat to such excess that they are left with no strength for worship or for staying awake at night (for worship).
Some have said: Its meaning is that the devil eats along with the disbeliever, so he eats more but is never satiated, whereas the Muslim eats by taking the name of Allah, so the devil does not eat with him, and thus he becomes satiated with less food.
