باب الأَكْلِ بِالْيَمِينِ:Chapter: Eating with the Right Hand

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلَّي الْحَنَفِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: "إِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ، فَلْيَأْكُلْ بِيَمِينِهِ، وَلْيَشْرَبْ بِيَمِينِهِ، فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَأْكُلُ بِشِمَالِهِ وَيَشْرَبُ بِشِمَالِهِ" .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any of you eats or drinks, let him eat and drink with his right hand, for indeed Satan eats and drinks with his left hand."
Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2068)
In this hadith, eating with the left hand has been described as a characteristic of Shaytan; therefore, one should avoid it. Following in the footsteps of Shaytan is to cast oneself into destruction.
Those people who, sitting at tables and in imitation of others, eat with the left hand and consider this to be sophistication, they too are merely imitators of Shaytan.
