Hadith 2064

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any one of you eats food, he should lick his fingers three times." (So that no part of the food remains stuck to the fingers.)

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2063)
Licking the fingers after eating is a Sunnah, and it has great benefits.
The most important benefit is gratitude to Allah for His blessing and obedience to the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, which is success in both religion and worldly life.
Physicians say: The moisture that comes out from the pores of the hand, by licking the fingers after eating, that moisture assists and helps in digesting the food, and it is germicidal.
Today, as this Sunnah is neglected, people are becoming afflicted with various kinds of diseases.
In Sahih Muslim and other books of hadith, it is mentioned that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to lick his fingers three times after eating. In the above-mentioned hadith, this command is given in the imperative form, which is with an authentic chain and carries the level of obligation. Washing or cleaning the hands without licking the fingers is disrespect and ingratitude towards Allah’s provision and is wastefulness.
