Hadith 2057

Sayyiduna Abu Waqqad Al-Laythi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to Madinah, people used to like the hump of the camel and the buttocks of the goat (that is, they would cut and eat them). So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whatever piece is cut from a living animal (such as a hand, foot, or buttock), then that (piece of meat) is carrion (dead meat)."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2056)

The meaning of the hadith is that its meat is not permissible to eat, even if it is cut from an animal that is lawful (halal) to consume, such as a cow, goat, camel, etc. This is Islam’s system of mercy even towards animals, because if any limb of a living animal is cut, every living being will experience pain and suffering from it. For this very reason, mutilation (muthla) has been prohibited, the explanation of which has already been mentioned previously.

Subhan Allah! How beautiful is the system of Islam, that not only is kindness taught towards human beings, but also towards animals.
