Hadith 2055

Sayyiduna Thabit bin Wadi’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A lizard was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so he said: “There was a community that was transformed; Allah knows best (who they were).”

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2054)

In Abu Dawood and Nasa’i, it is mentioned that a group from Bani Isra’il was transformed and turned into animals. I do not know which animal it was. Then the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam neither ate it nor forbade eating it.

Allamah Waheeduz-Zaman said: So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did not eat it out of precaution and piety, not due to its prohibition.

From another hadith, it is understood that the group which was transformed all died within three days, thus this doubt was removed.
