It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muhammad bin Safwan (may Allah be pleased with him) that he passed by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) carrying two rabbits hanging, and said: O Messenger of Allah! I passed by the herd of my family and hunted these two, but I did not find any iron object with which to slaughter them, so I slaughtered them with a sharp white stone. Can I eat them? He said: "Yes, eat them."
From this hadith as well, the permissibility of eating rabbit meat is established. In some narrations, it is mentioned that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) refrained from eating rabbit; this abstention was due to a natural inclination, just as the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not eat the dhab (monitor lizard), but permitted others to eat it.
The claim of the Shia that rabbit meat is haram because its female experiences menstruation is also incorrect.
Furthermore, from this hadith it is understood that if iron, stone, or wood is sharp and causes blood to flow, then eating the animal slaughtered with it is permissible and it is halal.
