Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2038)
Although these animals do not bite anyone nor do they cause harm, yet they evoke a sense of aversion in the heart. Some have said that they possess poison and are venomous; others have said that in the land of Arabia, it would seize the udder of a she-camel and suck its milk.
It is mentioned in Sahih al-Bukhari (2359): The lizard blew upon the fire of Ibrahim alayhis salam, meaning it tried to fan the flames. Mawlana Dawud Raz rahimahullah writes: This is a poisonous animal that constantly changes its color, and the command to kill it is given in the noble hadith, and there is reward for killing it.
