Hadith 20

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي بُكَيْرٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ طَهْمَانَ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "إِنِّي لَأَعْرِفُ حَجَرًا بِمَكَّةَ كَانَ يُسَلِّمُ عَلَيَّ قَبْلَ أَنْ أُبْعَثَ إِنِّي لَأَعْرِفُهُ الْآنَ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I know that stone in Makkah which used to greet me before Prophethood; I still recognize that stone."

The stone greeting him before the proclamation of Prophethood is an extraordinary event (khariq al-‘adah), and an extraordinary event before the proclamation of Prophethood is called irhas, while an extraordinary event after the proclamation of Prophethood is called a miracle (mu‘jizah).
