Hadith 1997

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَوْنٍ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ هُوَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الطَّحَّانُ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ، عَنْ نُبَيْشَةَ، عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،، قَالَ: "إِنَّا كُنَّا نَهَيْنَاكُمْ عَنْ لُحُومِ الْأَضَاحِيِّ أَنْ تَأْكُلُوهَا فَوْقَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ كَيْ تَسَعَكُمْ، فَقَدْ جَاءَ اللَّهُ بِالسَّعَةِ، فَكُلُوا، وَادَّخِرُوا، وَائْتَجِرُوا" . قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ: ائْتَجِرُوا: اطْلُبُوا فِيهِ الْأَجْرَ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Nabeesha (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "We had forbidden you from eating the meat of sacrifice after three days so that it would suffice for you, but now there is abundance, so eat, store, and earn reward." Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The meaning of «اتجروا» is to earn reward, that is, by giving charity and alms.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 1995 to 1997)

In the first hadith, there is a prohibition against keeping the meat of the sacrifice (qurbani) for more than three days. The reason for this is explained in this hadith: We had forbidden you from keeping and eating the meat of the sacrifice for more than three days because, at that time, people were in need and not everyone had the means to perform the sacrifice. Therefore, it was commanded that within three days, eat it and give it in charity and alms, and do not keep the meat of the sacrifice for more than three days. But now, there is abundance, people have become wealthy, so eat, give in charity, and if you wish, keep it as well. Thus, this hadith abrogates the previous hadith, and now it is also permissible to keep the meat of the sacrifice in the fridge and continue eating it later.
