Hadith 195

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي خَلَفٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ دَاوُدَ بْنَ أَبِي هِنْدٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، قَالَ: "أَوَّلُ مَنْ قَاسَ إِبْلِيسُ، وَمَا عُبِدَتْ الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ إِلَّا بِالْمَقَايِيسِ".
Imam Muhammad bin Sirin, may Allah have mercy on him, said: The first to use analogy (qiyas) was Iblis, and it was due to analogy that the sun and the moon were worshipped.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 194)

The analogy (qiyas) of Shaytan was that he was created from fire and Adam from clay; therefore, he considered himself superior. And how can the superior prostrate to the inferior? As will be mentioned further ahead.
