Hadith 1941

It is narrated from Imam Zuhri, may Allah have mercy on him, that when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would perform the stoning of the Jamrah, which is near the mosque of Mina, he would throw seven pebbles and say takbeer with each pebble. Then he would move a little forward and, upon reaching a soft and level ground, would stand facing the qiblah, raise both hands, and make supplication for a long time. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would come to the second Jamrah (i.e., Jamrah al-Wusta), and throw seven pebbles at it, saying Allahu Akbar with each pebble. Then he would move to the left, towards the lower ground, and there too he would stand facing the qiblah, raise both hands, and make supplication. Then he would come to Jamrah al-Aqabah, and here too he would throw seven pebbles, saying Allahu Akbar with each pebble. After that, he would return and would not stop here for supplication. Imam Zuhri, may Allah have mercy on him, said: I heard Salim bin Abdullah narrate this hadith from his father, who narrated it from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he also said that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, used to do the same.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 1940)

In the aforementioned hadith, the mention of stoning (rami) is regarding the eleventh day, in which the stoning of the first jamrah is performed, which is the jamrah located near Masjid al-Khaif. It is Sunnah to stand at a distance from the jamrah and make supplication (du'a). Similarly, after stoning the middle jamrah (jamrah wusṭā), it is Sunnah of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) to move away, raise the hands, and make a lengthy supplication. However, after stoning the last jamrah, it is neither established nor correct to stand or make supplication.

The condition for the acceptance of all deeds is that they are in accordance with the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (radi Allahu anhuma) used to do exactly as he had seen the Beloved of the Most High (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) do, and he would supplicate for as long as it takes to recite Surah al-Baqarah.

Furthermore, saying "Allahu Akbar" with each pebble is also established from this hadith, which is for the purpose of exalting the remembrance of Allah Ta'ala and is tantamount to humiliating and disgracing Shaytan and his progeny.
