Hadith 1925

Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Ya'mar Daili (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about Hajj, so he (peace be upon him) said: "Hajj is (standing) at Arafat," or he said, "Standing on the day of Arafah is (the essence of) Hajj, and whoever stands at Arafah before dawn breaks on the night of Muzdalifah has attained Hajj." He also said: "The days of staying at Mina are three. So whoever hastens and departs (from Mina) after two days, there is no sin upon him, and whoever delays and departs on the third day, there is also no sin upon him."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 1924)

The essence and soul of Hajj is the standing (wuquf) at Arafat, the preferred time for which is from the decline of the sun (zawal) until sunset. If, due to some hardship or difficulty, someone is unable to reach Arafat by sunset, then during the night at Muzdalifah, he may spend a short time at Arafat and then proceed to Muzdalifah. For if one performs the standing (wuquf) at Arafat during the entire day of the 9th (of Dhul-Hijjah) and the night of the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah until the break of dawn, the Hajj will be valid. This very ruling is mentioned in the above hadith.

Furthermore, the days of staying in Mina after the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah are three (the 11th, 12th, and 13th). Now, if someone stays on the 10th and 11th, spends the night, and after stoning (rami) on the 12th before sunset departs from Mina, this is also permissible. And if a pilgrim stays on the 11th and 12th, and after stoning (rami) on the 13th after the sun has declined (zawal), departs from Mina, this too is permissible, as is mentioned in the noble verse.

(And Allah knows best).
