Hadith 1884

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I reached Makkah and menstruation began, so I could not perform the Sa’i between Safa and Marwah. I mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he said: “Do all the acts that the pilgrims do, except do not perform the Tawaf of the House (Ka’bah).”

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 1883)

From this hadith, it is understood that if a woman begins menstruating (hayd) while in the state of ihram, she should perform all the rites and acts of Hajj except for the circumambulation (tawaf) of the House of Allah (Baytullah). In the aforementioned narration, it is mentioned that "I was not able to perform the sa’i between Safa and Marwah," but in other narrations, this is not mentioned, and only the beginning of her menstruation is stated in general terms. Therefore, this narration is among the unique narrations of Imam Darimi rahimahullah. From this, it is also understood that ritual purity (taharah) is a condition for tawaf. Acts such as remembrance (dhikr), supplications (adhkar), sa’i, stoning (rami), sacrifice (qurbani), shaving or shortening the hair (halq wa taqsir), etc., can be performed without ritual purity.

And Allah knows best.
