Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that I applied perfume to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) before he entered into the state of Ihram and (again) in Mina (when he exited Ihram), before performing the Tawaf al-Ifadah.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 1838 to 1841)
From these three authentic hadiths, it is established that applying perfume to the body before entering the state of ihram is Sunnah, but this perfume should not be applied to the cloth of ihram.
Similarly, it is Sunnah to apply perfume before the Tawaf al-Ifadah.
The position of the majority of scholars is that after the ritual stoning (rami) and shaving or cutting the hair (halq), it is permissible to apply perfume and to wear stitched clothing; only intercourse with women remains impermissible. After the Tawaf al-Ifadah, that too becomes permissible, and this is also the position of Imam Darimi rahimahullah.
