It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) specified Dhu’l-Hulayfah as the (place of) ihram for the people of Madinah, Juhfah for the people of Syria, Qarn al-Manazil for the people of Najd, and Yalamlam for the people of Yemen. The residents of these places should enter into ihram from these locations, as should those who pass through these routes and intend to perform Hajj or Umrah. However, those whose residence is between the miqat and Makkah should enter into ihram from the place where they begin their journey, until the people of Makkah themselves should enter into ihram from Makkah.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 1828 to 1830)
From these hadiths, the knowledge of the miqat is obtained, that is, those locations from where it is obligatory for the pilgrim (haji) or the one performing umrah (mu'tamir) to enter into the state of ihram. The miqat for the people of Madinah is known as Dhu’l-Hulayfah and is also famous by the name Abar Ali. For those coming from Riyadh and Najd, the miqat is Qarn al-Manazil, which is well-known as al-Sayl al-Kabir. Juhfah and Yalamlam are also well-known and recognized. The Saudi government has constructed beautiful and magnificent mosques there, as well as built bathhouses for ritual bathing (ghusl) and clean, pure places. To keep these places clean and tidy, dozens of employees work at every miqat, and there is activity there twenty-four hours a day. «وفق اللّٰه ولاة امور المسلمين ورزقهم مزيدا من التوفيق وحرسها اللّٰه هذه المملكة من كيد الكائدين وأيدي العابثين، آمين يارب العالمين.»
