أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "يَقُولُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى: كُلُّ عَمَلِ ابْنِ آدَمَ لَهُ: فَالْحَسَنَةُ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا إِلَى سَبْعِ مِئَةِ ضِعْفٍ، إِلَّا الصِّيَامَ هُوَ لِي وَأَنَا أَجْزِي بِهِ، إِنَّهُ يَتْرُكُ الطَّعَامَ وَشَهْوَتَهُ مِنْ أَجْلِي، وَيَتْرُكُ الشَّرَابَ وَشَهْوَتَهُ مِنْ أَجْلِي، فَهُوَ لِي وَأَنَا أَجْزِي بِهِ".
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Allah Almighty says: For the son of Adam, the reward of a good deed is multiplied from ten to seven hundred times, except for fasting; fasting is for Me and I alone will give its reward, because the fasting person leaves his food and his desires for My sake, he gives up drinking and his carnal desires for My sake, so fasting is for Me and I alone will give its reward.”

How much reward the fasting person will receive is not mentioned in this Hadith Qudsi, but its meaning is that the reward of the fasting person will be limitless and beyond reckoning, as is the statement of Allah the Exalted: «﴿إِنَّمَا يُوَفَّى الصَّابِرُونَ أَجْرَهُمْ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ﴾ [الزمر : 10]».
