باب في صِيَامِ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ:Chapter: Fasting on Ashura
Hadith 1797
أَخْبَرَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ، وَالْيَهُودُ يَصُومُونَ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ، فَسَأَلَهُمْ، فَقَالُوا: هَذَا الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي ظَهَرَ فِيهِ مُوسَى عَلَى فِرْعَوْنَ . فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "أَنْتُمْ أَوْلَى بِمُوسَى فَصُومُوهُ".
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Madinah, he saw the Jews observing the fast of Ashura. He (peace be upon him) asked them (about its reason), so they said that on this day Musa (peace be upon him) prevailed over Pharaoh (and achieved victory). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are closer to Musa (peace be upon him), so observe the fast."
