Hadith 1791

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not permissible to fast on two days: the day of Eid al-Fitr and the day of Eid al-Adha."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 1790)

From this hadith, the prohibition of fasting on the days of the two Eids is understood, and this prohibition is of a forbidding (tahrimi) nature, meaning that to fast on the day of Eid in any circumstance is not only impermissible but actually haram (forbidden), because these days are for Muslims to eat, drink, and enjoy themselves.
