Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that a man said to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), "I am ruined (burned in the fire of Hell)." The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked him, "What is the matter?" He told the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he had intercourse with his wife during Ramadan. Then a pouch was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), which was called 'adhq (or 'urooq), and it contained dates. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Where is the one who is burned?" The man stood up, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Give this as charity."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 1754 to 1756)
This hadith is concise; the detailed mention has already passed above. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) ordered the one who had intercourse during the day in Ramadan to either free a slave, or fast for two consecutive months, or feed sixty needy people. This is the expiation (kaffarah) for zihar. From this, it is understood that having intercourse while fasting is a very grave offense, and its expiation is the same as mentioned above.
From this hadith, the noble character of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is also evident. He did not rebuke the person for committing the sin; rather, not only did he provide the expiation on his behalf, but when addressing him, he did so in a very gentle manner: «(أَيْنَالْمُحْتَرِقْ)», "Where is the one who is burning (i.e., the one who has been scorched by his deed)?"
Subhan Allah! How beautiful is this style and character.
