Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 1747 to 1749)
The summary of all these hadiths is that it is permissible to fast during travel, and it is also valid not to fast; however, there is a difference regarding which is more virtuous. Some people have said that fasting is superior, while some scholars have considered leaving the fast to be superior. Some scholars have said that if one has the strength, then fasting during travel is superior, and if one does not have the strength, then breaking the fast is superior. It should be clear that this pertains to the fasts of Ramadan, i.e., the obligatory fasts; there is no need for voluntary (nafl) fasts during travel.
(And Allah knows best).
