Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You people should avoid continuous fasting (wisal)." The people said: "But you observe wisal?" He replied: "I am not like you; during the night my Lord feeds me and gives me drink."

Brief Explanation
(Explanation of Hadith 1740)
The meaning of "wisal" is to join or connect, and the wisal of fasting refers to fasting for two or several consecutive days without breaking the fast at all during the night or day. Many ahadith have come from the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam regarding the prohibition of this, and he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam explicitly forbade wisal in fasting. Some scholars have interpreted these ahadith of prohibition as indicating a prohibition of tahrimi (strictly forbidden), while others have interpreted them as prohibition of tanzihi (discouraged but not strictly forbidden). In the aforementioned hadith as well, there is an instruction to avoid wisal, and the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to practice wisal, which was something specific to him alone, as is clearly stated in the hadith: "I am not like you."
