Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: A Bedouin came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I have seen the moon. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you bear witness that there is no deity except Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah?" He said: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Bilal! Announce among the people that they should fast tomorrow."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Ahadith 1728 to 1730) From the aforementioned ahadith, it is understood that for the sighting of the crescent (hilal) of Ramadan, the testimony of one person is sufficient, but for the sighting of the crescent of Shawwal, the testimony of two persons is necessary, as is mentioned in Sunan Abi Dawud and others; see: [أبوداؤد 2337 ، 2340].
