Hadith 1726

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الرِّفَاعِيُّ، وَإِسْحَاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا الْعَقَدِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ الْمَدَينِيُّ، عَنْ بِلَالِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ طَلْحَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ طَلْحَةَ رَضِيَ اللهِ عَنْهُمَا، قَالَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا رَأَى الْهِلَالَ، قَالَ: "اللَّهُمَّ أَهِلَّهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالْأَمْنِ وَالْإِيمَانِ، وَالسَّلَامَةِ وَالْإِسْلَامِ، رَبِّي وَرَبُّكَ اللَّهُ".
Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw the new moon of the first night, he would say: «اَللّٰهُمَّ أَهِلَّهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالْأَمْنِ وَالْإِيْمَانِ وَالسَّلَامَةِ وَالْإِسْلَامِ رَبِّيْ وَرَبُّكَ اللّٰهُ.»
Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 1724 to 1726)
From this hadith, the evidence is established for reciting this supplication upon sighting the new moon of the first night. Although there is some criticism regarding the chain of narration, this narration has been reported through multiple routes; therefore, there is no harm in reciting this supplication.
«(واللّٰه أعلم وعلمه أتم)».
