Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 1707 to 1709)

The purpose of this hadith is that you should obey the rulers, keep them pleased, and do not cause them any harm, because in this lies the well-being of both parties.

The religion of Islam is a highly just and equitable system. On one hand, it forbids those who collect zakat and ushr from accepting gifts (hadiyyah) and from taking any percentage for themselves; on the other hand, it also commands those who give zakat not to force the officers and responsible authorities to act under compulsion, but rather to happily and willingly give the right of the Muslims from their wealth, so that the officers too may return from you pleased and content.
