Sadaqat al-Fitr, or Zakat al-Fitr, or Zakat al-Siyam, is the charity that is given before the Eid al-Fitr prayer on behalf of every Muslim man, woman, young, old, slave, and free person, and it is obligatory upon every Muslim. Its benefit, as explained in the Shari‘ah, is that «طُهْرَهٌ لِلصَّائِمِ طُعْمَةٌ لِلْمَسَاكِيْنَ it serves as expiation for any deficiencies that may have occurred in the fasting of the fasting person, and as food for the needy on the day of Eid.
