Hadith 1681

Sayyiduna Abu Laila Bilal Ansari رضي الله عنه said: I was with the Noble Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali رضي الله عنهما was with him. He picked up a date from the charity dates, and the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم took it away from him and said: "Do you not know that charity is not lawful for us?"

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 1679 to 1681)
From both these hadiths, it is understood that charity (sadaqah) is not permissible for Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and for the members of his household (Ahl al-Bayt), and in Ahl al-Bayt are included both his noble wives and all his descendants. Some scholars have said that only obligatory zakat is forbidden, as is narrated from Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq: Zakat and charities have been considered as impurities, therefore it is necessary for the family of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam to abstain from them.
