Hadith 1678

أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَخْبَرَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "مَنْ سَأَلَ عَنْ ظَهْرِ غِنًى، جَاءَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَفِي وَجْهِهِ خُمُوشٌ أَوْ كُدُوحٌ أَوْ خُدُوشٌ". قِيلَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، وَمَا الْغِنَى؟ قَالَ: "خَمْسُونَ دِرْهَمًا أَوْ قِيمَتُهَا مِنْ الذَّهَبِ" .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever begs while being wealthy will come on the Day of Resurrection with wounds on his face." It was asked: What is the limit of wealth? He said: "Fifty dirhams or its equivalent in gold."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 1677)
That is, whoever possesses 50 dirhams or gold of equivalent value is considered wealthy (ghani), and it is not permissible for him to beg.
Khamosh, khadoosh, and kadooh all have nearly the same meaning. Some people have said: khamosh means to peel the skin with the nails, khadoosh means to peel the skin with wood, and kadooh means to peel the skin with the teeth.
