Hadith 1655

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever owns camels, cows, or goats and does not fulfill their due rights, on the Day of Resurrection he will be made to sit on a flat plain, and the animals with hooves will trample him with their hooves, and those with horns will gore him with their horns, and on that day there will be no animal without horns or with broken horns." We asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is their due right? He said: "To lend its male for mating, to lend its bucket when asked, to give its milk when asked to drink, to milk it at the water, and to give it in the way of Allah for riding or carrying loads."

Brief Explanation
(Explanation of Hadith 1654)
«حَلَبُهَا عَلَى الْمَاءِ» means milking the she-camel at the watering place (camels are taken to drink water after several days; in earlier times, people used to gather at that place, and there were many benefits to milking there: the animals would get rest, cleanliness was maintained, and the poor and needy would receive milk).
Some scholars have said that this ruling pertains to the period before the obligation of zakat; when zakat was made obligatory, this ruling was abrogated.
And Allah knows best.
From this hadith, it is understood that when the zakat of animals is not given or their due right is not fulfilled, then on the Day of Judgment, those animals will trample their owner with their hooves and horns. Therefore, their right should be fulfilled so that one may be saved from this punishment on the Day of Judgment.
For further explanation regarding the obligation of zakat, see at the end of this chapter.
