أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْتَشِرِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ، عَنْ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ، قَالَ: "كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ وَالْجُمُعَةِ بِسَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى وَهَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ، وَرُبَّمَا اجْتَمَعَا فَقَرَأَ بِهِمَا".
Sayyiduna Nu’man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with both of them) said: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite «سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى» and «هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ» in the Eid and Friday prayers, and whenever Eid and Friday coincided, he would also recite these two surahs (i.e., «سورة الأعلى و الغاشية»).
Brief Explanation

From this authentic hadith, it is established that in the Friday (Jumu‘ah) and Eid prayers, reciting Surah al-A‘la after Surah al-Fatihah in the first rak‘ah and Surah al-Ghashiyah in the second rak‘ah is the Sunnah of the Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). Other surahs and verses may also be recited, but these surahs are superior (afdal).
Furthermore, the statement that it is not correct to specify any surah for a particular prayer is not correct.
«(مَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُوْلُ فَخُذُوْهُ)».
