Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say the takbeer seven times in the first rak'ah of the two 'Eids, and five takbeers in the second rak'ah, and he would begin with the prayer before the sermon.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 1644)
From this hadith, it is established to say twelve additional takbirs (takbirat zaidah) in the two Eid prayers. This is the position of Imam Ahmad rahimahullah and the Ahl al-Hadith, and in light of the evidence, this is the preferred view. In Ibn Majah, it is also narrated with another authentic chain, about which Iraqi said: its chain is strong. And Imam Tirmidhi rahimahullah has transmitted from Imam Bukhari rahimahullah that this hadith is authentic. In Darqutni, there is also a narration that in Eid al-Fitr, there are seven takbirs in the first rak‘ah and five in the second rak‘ah, and after the takbirs in both rak‘ahs, the recitation (qira’ah) is done. According to the Hanafis, it is customary to say three takbirs before the recitation in the first rak‘ah and three takbirs after the recitation in the second rak‘ah, which is contrary to the authentic ahadith.
In Saudi Arabia and in all the Arab lands, the method of Imam Ahmad rahimahullah and the Ahl al-Hadith is prevalent, and this is the correct way.
