It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came on the day of Eid al-Fitr and performed the two-unit prayer, and he did not offer any prayer before or after it.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 1643)
From this hadith, it is established that there is no prayer before or after the Eid prayer in the Eidgah (place of Eid prayer). If the prayer is offered in the mosque and someone enters the mosque before the prayer, he may perform the greeting of the mosque (tahiyyat al-masjid). In one narration, it is mentioned that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhuma saw a person performing voluntary (nafl) prayer before the Eid prayer, so he forbade him. That person said: Allah Ta'ala will not punish me for praying. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhuma replied: Allah Ta'ala will certainly punish you for opposing the Sunnah, «كما نقله العلامه وحيدالدين في»[شرح سنن ابن ماجه 1291].
A similar statement from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib rahimahullah has been mentioned by Imam Darimi rahimahullah at (449).
