Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 1638 to 1640)

From these narrations, it is understood that on Eid al-Fitr, it is better to eat something before going out for the prayer, and if dates are available, that is preferable; otherwise, eating any sweet or savory thing before leaving the house is Sunnah and recommended. In contrast, on the day of Eid al-Adha, it is Sunnah to go out for the prayer without eating anything and to eat from one’s sacrificial animal’s meat afterward. It is a strange matter that people consider breaking their fast with meat on Eid al-Adha as obligatory, yet they neglect obligatory prayers and fasting. From the sighting of the crescent of Dhu al-Hijjah until after the sacrifice, it is prohibited to cut hair or nails, but there is not the slightest hesitation in shaving the beard before the prayer; rather, some go clean-shaven to the Eid al-Adha prayer.

May Allah Ta’ala grant them guidance and the ability to follow all the Sunnahs. Ameen.
