باب الدُّعَاءِ في الْقُنُوتِ:Chapter: Supplication in Qunoot

أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَسَّانَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاق، عَنْ بُرَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْحَوْرَاءِ السَّعْدِيِّ، عَنْ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: عَلَّمَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَلِمَاتٍ أَقُولُهُنَّ فِي قُنُوتِ الْوِتْرِ: "اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَ، وَعَافِنِي فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَ، وَتَوَلَّنِي فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ، وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَ، وَقِنِي شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ، فَإِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلَا يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ، وَإِنَّهُ لَا يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَالَيْتَ، تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ" . قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد: أَبُو الْحَوْرَاءِ اسْمُهُ: رَبِيعَةُ بْنُ شَيْبَانَ.
It is narrated from Abu Hurairah Sa'di that Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me some words which I recite in the Qunoot of Witr and up to «اَللّٰهُمَّ اهْدِنِيْ فِيْمَنْ هَدَيْتَ آخرتك پڑهي تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ». Imam Darimi Abu Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The name of Abu Hurairah Sa'di is Rabi'ah bin Shayban. *In some copies, it is printed as Abu al-Jawza, which is incorrect.
Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Ahadith 1629 to 1632)
From these ahadith, it is established to recite this supplication: «اَللّٰهُمَّ اهْدِنِيْ فِيْمَنْ هَدَيْتَ ....... إلخ» in the qunoot of witr. Imam Darimi rahimahullah sufficed only with this. It is possible that the other supplication «اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْتَعِيْنُكَ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُكَ .... إلخ» was not, according to him, of the same status. And Allah knows best.
From these ahadith, it is established to recite this supplication: «اَللّٰهُمَّ اهْدِنِيْ فِيْمَنْ هَدَيْتَ ....... إلخ» in the qunoot of witr. Imam Darimi rahimahullah sufficed only with this. It is possible that the other supplication «اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْتَعِيْنُكَ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُكَ .... إلخ» was not, according to him, of the same status. And Allah knows best.
