باب النَّهْيِ عَنْ مَسْحِ الْحَصَا:Chapter: Forbidding wiping pebbles

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "إِذَا قَامَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ، فَإِنَّ الرَّحْمَةَ تُوَاجِهُهُ، فَلَا يَمسْحِ الْحَصَا".
Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any one of you stands for prayer, the mercy of Allah is before him, so he should not remove pebbles."
Brief Explanation
(Explanation of Hadiths 1424 to 1426)
From these hadiths, it is prohibited to repeatedly clean the place of prostration during prayer. If it is extremely necessary and performing prostration becomes difficult, then it is permitted to do so only once, and this is so that one may pray with concentration. The mind of the worshipper should not wander here and there; therefore, turning attention or focus elsewhere during prayer, gathering up one's clothes, and adjusting one's hair have been prohibited.
The characteristic of the believers is that they adopt humility and submissiveness (khushu‘ and khudu‘) in their prayer and perform it with full concentration.
May Allah grant everyone the ability to do so.
