Hadith 1393

Sayyiduna Tamim Dari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “(On the Day of Resurrection) the first thing for which a servant will be called to account will be the prayer. If his prayer is complete, it will be recorded as complete, and if there is any deficiency in it, Allah Almighty will say to His angels: ‘See if My servant has any voluntary prayers?’ If he has, then complete his obligatory prayer with his voluntary prayers. The same will be done with zakat and all other obligatory deeds.” Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I do not know of anyone besides Hammad who has narrated this report as marfu‘ (attributed to the Prophet). Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked: Is its being marfu‘ authentic? He said: No.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 1392)

From this hadith, the importance of prayer (salah) is established.

In some ahadith, it is mentioned that the first thing for which reckoning will be done is the reckoning of blood.

The scholars have explained this by saying that among the rights of Allah (huquq Allah), the first reckoning will be for prayer (salah), and among the rights of the servants (huquq al-‘ibad), the first reckoning will be for blood.

As for those people who deliberately abandon prayer and do not perform it at all, how will their reckoning be? And then, when there is deficiency even in prayer, what will be the state of the other deeds? May Allah grant us the ability to fulfill both the rights of Allah and the rights of the servants in the best possible manner.

Ameen.
