أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ الْبَرَّادِ، قَالَ: وَكَانَ عِنْدِي أَوْثَقَ عِنْدِي مِنْ نَفْسِي، قَالَ: قَالَ لَنَا أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ: أَلَا أُصَلِّي بِكُمْ صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: "فَكَبَّرَ وَرَكَعَ، وَوَضَعَ يَدَيْهِ عَلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ، وَفَرَّجَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ".
Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Shall I not lead you in prayer as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray? (Salim al-Barad said:) So he said the takbir, performed ruku‘, and placed both his hands (palms) on both his knees, and kept his fingers spread apart until every joint became straight.

The purpose of Imam Darimi rahimahullah in mentioning these ahadith is to show that previously, during bowing (ruku‘), both hands were placed between the thighs, which was later abrogated. The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to place the palms of both hands on both knees and would keep the fingers spread apart.
